PFASs Study Group
The PFASs Study Group is commissioned by Japan UTS Co., Ltd. to carry out various operations.
【background】
Organofluorine compounds (PFAS; perfluoroalkyl compounds and polyfluoroalkyl compounds) have been used in a wide range of fields because they have high performance such as water resistance, heat resistance, non-adhesiveness, oil repellency, and stain resistance. rice field.
Since the 1940s, PFAS has been used in various products from daily necessities such as food packaging, clothing and carpets to the semiconductor manufacturing process, and has been an indispensable chemical substance in our daily lives and industrial activities to date.
However, in recent years, it has become clear that PFAS is highly persistent, persistent, and accumulative on a global scale, and warnings about environmental pollution have been issued to limit its use. However, since it has a short history of use, there are still many unclear points about how to deal with and manage this substance.
【Purpose】
This study group focuses on the following four points in particular, "knows" the current situation, and works as a platform for a wide range of exchange of opinions and proposals with engineers and researchers with specialized knowledge and experience.
(A) Cooperation with manufacturers and users
(B) Analytical technology
(C) Soil / water treatment method
(A) Cooperation with manufacturers and users
As mentioned earlier, we have enjoyed the convenience of PFAS in our daily lives and industrial activities. Based on the valuable experience and knowledge of manufacturers and users, we will cooperate to lead to the safety and security of the environment and health.
(B) Analytical technology
It is said that PFAS has more than 4000 similar substances. Many researchers, engineers, and analysts in industry, government, and academia are working to establish analytical methods, but at present, they have not been adapted to all substances. The establishment of an analytical method is indispensable for confirming the existence and actual condition of PFAS in many situations. This association plays a role as a place for exchanging opinions on analytical methods and exchanging information on challenges of new analytical methods, regardless of industry, government, or academia. We would also like to consider establishing a unified standard.
(C) Soil / water treatment method
PFAS is persistent in nature. In some situations, it is necessary to manually detoxify soil and water in which a large amount of PFAS remains. How to detoxify the "soil and water" that are important for human life? We believe that it is necessary to exchange opinions with many people who have specialized knowledge and experience, including surveys of accumulation in humans in an environment where distribution is observed at high concentrations.
Cooperation of 3 groups
We will promote the cooperation of experts with high knowledge of each of the above (A), (B), and (C), and aim for a more effective and reliable way of advancing environmental conservation.
We will continue our activities for the beautiful future of all life on earth.
The PFAS Study Group is currently working as a voluntary organization under the volunteers.
